CCSC Code of Conduct
Cavern City Swim Club believes that character, teamwork, integrity, respect and good sportsmanship are more important than winning. By registering with CCSC, you and your child agree to comply with the expectations of good behavior, and sportsmanship, and acknowledge the consequences set forth in the CCSC Code of Conduct.
Athlete Code of Conduct
The purpose of a Code of Conduct for Athletes is to establish a consistent expectation for an athlete’s behavior. As an athlete member of Cavern City Swim Club, I agree to the following statements:
❏ I will respect and show courtesy to my teammates and coaches at all times. All swimmers are expected to follow the direction of the coaching staff. Disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated.
❏ I will demonstrate good sportsmanship toward teammates, competitors and coaches at all practices, swim meet competitions and other team activities. This includes cheering for all my teammates, offering encouragement, and recognizing that I am representing CCSC and our community
❏ I will set a good example of behavior and work ethic for my younger teammates.
❏ I will be respectful of my teammates’ feelings and personal space. Swimmers who exhibit sexist, racist, homophobic, or otherwise inappropriate behavior will be faced with consequences.
❏ I will respect the property of my teammates. Theft or vandalism is subject to disciplinary action.
❏ I will attend team meetings and training sessions. I will make every effort to be on time to practice, swim meets, and team activities and I will actively participate in team practices, competitions, fundraising events, and other team activities.
❏ I will come to all practices and team sponsored events in appropriate attire.I will wear a competition swimsuit and swim cap to all practices. I will wear the official CCSC team swimsuit and team cap at all swim meets.
❏ I will show respect for all facilities and other property (including locker rooms) used during practices, competitions, and team activities.
❏ I will refrain from the use of foul language, violence, behavior deemed dishonest, offensive, or illegal. This includes any behaviors deemed “un-sportsman-like” as well as bullying in nature toward teammates, or other competitors either in person, on-line or through any other means of communication.
❏ If I disagree with an official’s call, I will talk with my coach and will NOT approach the official directly.
❏ I will observe all Natatorium rules at practice and facility rules at away swim meets. I will show respect to lifeguards and other pool staff at all times.
❏ I will obey all of USA Swimming’s rules and codes of conduct.
I understand that if I violate this code of conduct, I will be subject to disciplinary action determined by my coaches and the CCSC Board of Directors.
Parent Code of Conduct
The purpose of a Code of Conduct for Parents is to establish consistent expectations for behavior by parents. As a parent/guardian of a CCSC swimmer, I understand the important growth and developmental support that my child’s participation fosters. I also understand that it is essential to provide the coaching staff with respect and the authority to coach the team. I agree with the following statements:
❏ I will set the right example for our children by demonstrating sportsmanship and always showing respect and common courtesy to team members, coaches, competitors, officials, parents, and all facilities.
❏ I will get involved by volunteering, attending Parent Meetings, observing practices, cheering at meets, and talking with my child and their coach about their progress.
❏ I will refrain from coaching my child from the stands during practices or at meets.
❏ I understand that criticizing, name-calling, use of abusive language or gestures directed toward coaches, officials, volunteers, and/or any participating swimmer, including my own child, will not be tolerated.
❏ I will remember that practice and swim meets are "family-friendly" events and ALL topics of conversation should be "G-Rated" and appropriate for all-ages.
❏ I will observe all Natatorium rules at practice and facility rules at away swim meets. I will show respect to lifeguards and other pool staff at all times.
❏ I will show respect for all facilities and other property used during practices, competitions, and team activities.
❏ I will respect the integrity of the officials. I will direct my concerns to the Head Coach;
I understand the above expectations and that my failure to adhere to them may result in disciplinary action.
Code of Conduct for Coaches
The purpose of this Code of Conduct for Coaches is to establish common expectations for all members of the CCSC coaching staff. It is to be used as a guide to promote a positive team environment and good sportsmanship.
❏ At all times, adhere to USA Swimming’s rules and code of conduct.
❏ Set a good example of respect and sportsmanship for participants and fans to follow.
❏ Act and dress with professionalism and dignity in a manner suitable to his/her profession.
❏ Respect officials and their judgment and abide by the rules of the event.
❏ Treat opposing coaches, participants, and spectators with respect.
❏ Instruct participants in sportsmanship and demand that they display good sportsmanship.
❏ Coach in a positive manner and do not use derogatory comments or abusive language.
❏ Win with humility and lose with dignity.
❏ Treat every athlete fairly, justly, impartially, intelligently, and with sensitivity.
❏ Always place the well-being, health, and safety of swimmers above all other considerations, including developing performance.
❏ Continue to seek and maintain their own professional development in all areas in relation to coaching and teaching children.
❏ Always maintain a professional separation between coach and athlete.
Any complaints of a coach violating this code of conduct will be brought to the attention of his/her supervisor and/or the club’s Board of Directors.
CCSC Discipline Policy
The Head Coach has the authority to impose the following penalties for violation of the Cavern City Swim Club Code of Conduct.
Notification will be made to the Board of Directors for any disciplinary action taken, within twenty-four hours of occurrence.
Any appeals of suspensions will be heard by the Board of Directors at the next regularly scheduled Board Meeting. No special meeting will be called to hear appeals, other than those deemed necessary by the Board of Directors.
The penalties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- The swimmer will be given a “time out”. The swimmers will be instructed to exit the pool and sit on the bleachers or deck area for a determined amount of time and then allowed to resume practice after consultation with the coach.
- The swimmer will be given a verbal warning, parent will be notified.
- The swimmer will be removed from practice and a parent will be notified to pick up their child.
- If the swimmer’s disciplinary problems continue, the swimmer and parent will meet with the Head Coach and a representative of the Board of Directors to discuss an action plan for improvement. These actions may include:
- The swimmer’s parent required to accompany their child to swim practice for no less than five (5) consecutive practices.
- The swimmer placed on a probationary period of 30 days. During the probationary period the swimmer may still attend practice but is not allowed to participate in any swim meets. Any Code of Conduct violations during the probationary period will result in immediate expulsion from CCSC
- The swimmer suspended from participating in practice for one (1) or more weeks. Swim meet participation is not allowed during the suspension period. (NOTE: Monthly dues will NOT be prorated, and NO refund will be given for swim meet entry fees during the suspension period.)
- In extreme cases, or for unresolved and recurring poor conduct, the swimmer’s (and/or family's) membership with CCSC will be terminated.
The decision of the Board will be final in all disciplinary matters.
