CCSC Minimum Qualifications, Tryouts & Swim Trial Week

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Membership to Cavern City Swim Club is open to all Carlsbad and surrounding area youth
• Age: for children in 1st - 12th grade. MUST be at least 6 years old.
• MUST have the ability to swim a continuous 25 yards of any stroke, unassisted by floatation device and without stopping, touching the wall, lane ropes, or the bottom of the pool.
• For your child’s safety, ONLY swimmers meeting the minimum qualifications, as assessed and approved by the CCSC coaching staff during a swim tryout will be invited to join CCSC.
• We are not swim lessons.

TRYOUTS: 

• CCSC holds at least one tryout session each season (short course and long course).
• Tryouts are scheduled by appointment ONLY.
• A swim tryout is a 20-minute session with one of our coaches to verify that your child is water-safe, pool/lane-safe, to get a general sense of the candidate's skill-level and evaluate their confidence in the water.
• During a swim tryout, your child will be in the water, so they will need a swimsuit (one-piece ONLY for girls) and goggles. We recommend swim caps, but they are not required for the swim tryout. Swimmers with long hair should wear their hair in a ponytail or "messy bun".

TRIAL PRACTICE:

• After successfully completing a tryout evaluation with a CCSC coach, potential swim candidates are invited to return the following week to participate in a free two weeks of practice with CCSC.
• Roster group assignments made during the tryout are an estimate of a swimmer's group placement and may be adjusted after our coaches have had additional time to evaluate a swimmer’s skill-level and endurance.
• During this trial practice, the candidate will get to experience what a typical practice week would be like if they joined our program and gives them the opportunity to meet their teammates.

​INVITATION TO JOIN:

• After the trial practice, if a child wants to become a member of CCSC, our registrar will explain registration and payment procedures, and will email a registration link to the candidate’s parent/guardian.
• CCSC is paperless and handles all registrations and payments electronically.
• Potential members have 10 days to claim their invitation and pay dues and registration fees. If not registered with CCSC within 10 days of the emailed invitation, the candidate forfeits their "spot” in the CCSC program and will have to wait until our next tryout/enrollment period.
